2018: Marina Beshai

We’re proud to announce The Foundation has awarded the 2018 Valentine Memorial Scholarship to Marina Beshai of Severn, Maryland. Marina, the daughter of Towne Park’s Adel Beshai, a shuttle driver with Econopark, will attend Princeton University in the fall to pursue a degree in computer engineering.

The news was shared at Econopark Express with Marina and her family along with Towne Park and Econopark leaders and team members.  She was selected from more than 40 applicants and will receive a $40,000 scholarship over the course of her college career to support her education and goal to become a software engineer.

“Among so many deserving and qualified applicants, Marina clearly models the values, leadership, impressive accomplishments and potential this scholarship recognizes and supports,” said Steffan Sonneveldt, President, The Foundation. “Her experiences and qualifications stood out in every way. It’s an honor and privilege to award the scholarship Marina and the Beshai family on behalf of The Foundation and Towne Park.”

Marina was recommended by teachers and community leaders for her passion to pursue change in the world.  An immigrant from rural Egypt, she stated in her application “I have been fortunate to have an unfiltered life, experiencing first-hand what it means to live in poverty and need help. Growing up I became captivated by engineering and the ability to create whatever my heart desires with simple software, it’s a hidden fortune.”

“My goal is to build a business which will digitalize health and demographical information to be used for modern day research and continue to devote time to charity work and volunteering,” said Marina. “No matter what I do, I will continue to help others in need.”

In high school, Marina was the President of National Honors Society along with the Math, Spanish and Science Honors Societies.  She served on the College Board Youth Advisory Council and achieved recognition as an Associated Press Scholar with Distinction, National Coca-Cola Scholar, and the Questbridge College Prep Scholar.

Her father, Adel Beshai, has been with Towne Park since 2013 serving as a Shuttle Driver for the off-airport parking facility, Econopark Express.  He and his wife, Samia, are the parents of four daughters and stated, “I am so proud of Marina.  A sincere thank you to The Foundation for this incredible opportunity for Marina and our family.”
